Can Cargol
Almonds, olives and citrus in the Costa Brava hinterland
About this host
Can Cargol — snail house in Catalan, named for the old stone spiral staircase — is a mixed farm 30 km inland from the Costa Brava. Three crops run across the autumn calendar: almonds from late August, olives through October and November, and clementines into December. A week here feels genuinely varied. Mornings might mean shaking almond trees with long poles; afternoons switching to olive picking with hand combs. The farm is compact and social — you're never far from the farmhouse kitchen, where Núria has usually left something on the hob.
The story behind this place
Núria inherited the farm from her aunt, who had let it go semi-wild. Over seven years she has brought it back to life, adding the citrus grove and opening to visiting groups. She is a former primary school teacher and brings that same patient energy to explaining the rhythms of each crop.
